This means we have prints for every single machine ever designed by their engineers and the ability to provide world-class rebuild & retrofit services for them. As Bullard, Bourn & Koch offers a wide variety of rebuild and repair services at our facility to help your Bullard VTL run better. We offer services for all makes and models of Bullard, from Spiral Drives through Dynaturns & Dynautapes. Being the OEM means that we have the knowledge and expertise to rebuild or retrofit your Bullard VTL properly. We make the distinction between rebuild and repair, where our competitors do not. For instance, when we rebuild your Bullard Cutmaster’s shifter unit, we don’t just replace the solenoids and call it a day. We thouroughly rebuild the entire unit. Our in-house repair services allow you to repair only what needs to be repaired as well, cutting down on costs and downtime.

Bullard Cutmaster Shifter Unit Rebuild
The Bullard Cutmaster was built from the 1940s through the 1960s. Tens of thousands of these machines were produced during those years. They truly were a “war winner” as we like to call them. During the production run Bullard changed the transmission shifter design numerous times. We support all generations with OEM parts, in house repair, and field service.
To help keep your “war winner” running, today, we stock reconditioned shifter units that are sold on an exchange basis. These units are disassembled, cleaned, the manifold is refit to the valve block, solenoids are reconditioned or replaced, and all other parts are repaired or replaced back to OEM spec. The warranty is one year one material and workmanship.
For units sent to Bourn & Koch for repair we offer different levels of service. After the evaluation is complete detailing our findings you may choose to make basic repairs to bring it back to a functional state, or a complete remanufacture replacing or reworking all parts that are worn or damaged and the installation of new solenoids and wiring. On repairs our warranty is one year on parts and 90 days on labor. Our warranty on a full rebuild is one year on parts and labor.
Bullard Dynatrol Gear Box Repair & Rebuild
The Bullard Dynatrol was a revolutionary machine, offering variable feeds and speeds at the cutting head. This was achieved through the use of numerous hydraulic and mechanical components. Over time, these components fail. When numerous issues arise on your Dynatrol’s gearbox, a teardown and repair of the gearbox is recommended.
We’ve rebuilt numerous Dynatrol gearboxes, both in-house and out in the field. As OEM for Bullard, we have the right documentation to ensure the correct parts are installed in your gearbox. This also means we can inspect any of the parts inside of it to ensure they are within acceptable tolerances.
We also carry many of the common replacement parts in stock such as the pump and motor, helping to reduce downtime and increasing your productivity.
Bullard Dynatrol Pump Repair & Exchange
The Bullard Dynatrols utilized a variable displacement pump and a constant delivery motor to achieve their variable feeds and speeds. This pump and motor combination is long obsolete. Fortunately, Bourn & Koch can rebuild these pumps and motors to allow you to keep running your Dynatrol.
We also offer the same service on many other obsolete Bullard VTL pumps and hydraulic components.
Bullard Headstock Rebuild & Repair
Bullard VTLs utilized a headstock to transfer power from the motor to the clutch case. The most common headstock on a Bullard VTL is the 20 speed, which was present on the Cutmaster, Cutmaster 75, Dynatrol and Dynautape models. The headstock on a Bullard contains numerous gears and clutches that work in conjunction with one another to transfer power at the appropriate rate for given speeds at the table. As your Bullard VTL is run, the gears, bushings, bearings and shafts in your headstock will become worn, causing downtime and loss of performance.
Our rebuild & repair service includes the following:
- A full teardown and evaluation of your Bullard’s headstock to determine root cause of failure
- An evaluation report showing what issues were found within the headstock
- Replacement of any wear parts including bushings, bearings and seals
- Replacement of any worn gears and shafts
- Reassembly and inspection to ensure proper function
